Carl has over 35 year’s experience running marketing services agencies. He co-founded icas in 1980 and as managing director and major shareholder built it into the second largest specialist B2B PR firm in the UK.
For the first 20 years the agency was based solely in Hertfordshire but in 1999 Carl acquired two London independent firms and combined them to form icas London. He always believed that for icas to be successful the firm needed to attract the best PR talent and it did so by investing heavily in training for all staff. In turn, to attract the best clients, the talent would need to produce award winning, business and brand building campaigns. This virtuous circle was at the heart of the firm’s success.
Carl has worked extensively on many challenging crisis events as well as training clients how to prepare for crisis. He was, for instance, the spokesman for Securitas when in 2006 the firm was robbed of £53m from its Tonbridge depot. Carl was on the Police Gold Group and controlled the communications strategy for what was the biggest domestic story of the year.
In 2006 icas became known as Publicasity and Carl moved to become Executive Chairman, subsequently retiring from the business in 2014. He now operates as an independent advisor specialising in Issue and Crisis Management.
As Non-Executive Director, Carl provides strategic support and advice to our senior team, helping us create best-of-breed marketing and PR solutions, while delivering long term business growth.
